Spotlight on DASLs: The Role of Directors of Artistic Sign Language

Wednesday, June 2, 2021
4:00pm - 5:30pm ET

Location: Zoom
Intended Audience: Theatre access administrators & coordinators, sign language interpreters, Deaf Artistic / Sign Language consultants, and others who are interested in creating quality service provision of interpreted shows. Open to non-A.R.T./New York members.
Participation Level: Low - Zoom Webinar with Q&A

There is more to language access for Deaf artists and audience members than hiring ASL interpreters. Including a Director of Artistic Sign Language (DASL) in the process of any production that incorporates sign language ensures the authenticity of language and representation, which in turn makes the theatre community more reflective of the world in which we live, and makes Deaf audiences feel more engaged. Join A.R.T./New York and Hands On for a panel discussion with a group of dynamic DASLs, who will share their experiences with different productions, their process, requisite skills needed, and their vision for the future. Come with questions!

**Panel presented in ASL. Voice interpretation and real-time captioning will be provided.**

Moderator: Janis Cole
Panelists:
Monique 'MoMo' Holt
John McGinty
Zavier Sabio
Anne Tomasetti
Alexandria Wailes

Join us for a discussion on Best Practices for ASL Interpretation for Virtual Theatre on May 26!
