Whether it's attending a show at our theatres or participating in one of our workshops, we will do our best to ensure your needs are met. Planning Your Visit & Our Spaces

A.R.T./New York has three locations: Spaces@520 in Midtown, the LuEsther T. Mertz South Oxford Space in Fort Greene, and the A.R.T./New York Theatres in Hells Kitchen. All of our spaces are ADA-accessible, and below you will find a breakdown of each facility's available accommodations. 

Spaces@520  

• Elevator access to the floor.
• The building floor is fully wheelchair accessible with no steps.
• All office doors include braille on their signage. 
• One ADA-accessible bathroom. 

South Oxford Space  

• The front entrance is accessible via ramp for wheelchair and mobility device accessibility.
• Elevator access is available from the basement to the fourth floor. The fifth floor is only accessible via stairs. Rehearsal rooms are in the basement, 1st, and 2nd floor and are accessible via the elevator.
• ADA-accessible restroom on the 1st floor. 

A.R.T./New York Theatres  

The A.R.T./New York Theatres are fully ADA-accessible, including:

• Convenient curb cuts close to our entrance for wheelchair and mobility device accessibility.  
• Elevator access to each floor.
• ADA-accessible restrooms available on the Mezzanine and Gural lobbies.
• Assistive listening devices are available.
• All backstage areas, including control booths and dressing rooms, are ADA-accessible.

Attending a Workshop or Other Programs

In Person 

Most A.R.T./New York workshops and roundtables are located at Spaces@520 or South Oxford Space. ASL interpretation is available for all A.R.T./New York programming including workshops, roundtables, events, and TLP consultations by request, which must be made at least 5 business days before the event.

Online  

All of A.R.T./New York's online programming is held via Zoom, a video conferencing platform that is accessible for people who use screen readers and/or keyboard shortcuts to navigate virtual space.

Small events like workshops and roundtables feature automated captioning provided by Zoom, and ASL interpretation and CART captioning are available by request. All requests must be made at least 5 business days before the event. For large events like Town Halls, interpreters and CART captioning may be provided by default.

Disability Equity Services & Programming

A.R.T./New York offers services to help make theatre companies and organizations more accessible & equitable for people with disabilities.

Disability Equity Series 

Developed with support from A.R.T./New York's Disability Advisory Council, the
Disability Equity Series is a series of workshops, roundtables and affinity spaces that will take the A.R.T./New York community on a journey beyond just thinking about accessibility in terms of compliance or as a box to check.

Participants will get a deep dive into concepts of anti-ableism as well as into practical ways to increase equity in the theatre. The goal of this series is to shift our field away from focusing solely on accessibility to focusing on anti-ableism and equity for disabled people.

A.R.T./New York believes that this work involves changing systems & shifting culture, and not just adding on accommodations or one-and-done programs, so read on to learn more about the various forms of support we are pleased to provide.

Theatre Admin Consulting Program- (TAC)

A.R.T./New York members who have attended previous Disability Equity programming and are looking for deeper, customized support to develop and implement Access Plans, conduct internal Accessibility Audits, or operationalize other organizational processes related to Disability Equity should consider our TAC Program. 

Disability Advisory Council

The Disability Equity Series and subsequent initiatives would not be possible without the ongoing support and guidance of A.R.T./New York's Disability Advisory Council. This group consists of disabled artists, administrators, and consultants working in various areas of the theatre field, and their varied perspectives offer invaluable insight into A.R.T./New York's internal and external practices. In addition to assisting with the creation of the Disability Equity Series, the Advisory Council has offered guidance on A.R.T./New York's grantmaking practices, as well as the organization's approach to disability and accessibility as a whole.
