Coronavirus Update: March 13, 2020

Dear A.R.T./New York Members,

The Mayor’s Press Conference yesterday marked a turning point in this crisis as he told us he expects 1,000 cases next week and that we will be dealing with this virus for 6 months.

This is no longer business as usual and we need to make sure that you are ALL covered for Business Interruption Insurance and have access to any relief funding offered by the City, State, and Federal Government. We also plan to speak to Institutional Funders.

BEING ABLE TO QUANTIFY YOUR LOSSES, TO DATE, WILL BUILD A STRONGER CASE.

We will provide additional surveys to quantify losses each week to strengthen our message as we see growing losses, cancelled Galas, etc.

I realize that shutting down is a very costly decision, one that many of you have already made. Given the Mayor’s Press Conference yesterday and Broadway shutting down, I doubt many people will want to gather in groups.

We will get through this...and we will be stronger if we work together.

Please reach out to meCorinne Woods, or the rest of our team if you have any suggestions about how we can better support the field or for any additional resources you need.

Please know that A.R.T./New York is working with our Government Relations Team to access key elected officials. And we are working with Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the League of Independent Theater (LIT)DCLA, and the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) to ensure that we present a unified voice and reach as many theatres and artists as possible.

Yours,
Ginny
