A.R.T./New York presents

SALIM’S ART CLOSET - Exhibit of new paintings by Salim Fields

Gallery Three at South Oxford Space

January 28 - May 8, 2016

The Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York (A.R.T./New York) is pleased to present an exhibit of recent acrylic paintings on canvas and board by Salim Fields - Salim’s Art Closet.  This beautiful arrangement of Salim Fields’ recent work shows his passion for color and texture and the influence of the organic on his abstract works.

An opening reception will take place on Thursday, January 28 from 6pm to 9pm. This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served and the artist will be in attendance.  Gallery Three is located on the third floor of South Oxford Space, at 138 South Oxford Street in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn.  Regular exhibit hours are 10am to8pm daily.  Additional viewing hours are easily arranged by calling 718-398-3078.

Salim Fields was born in Brooklyn, New York and grew up the only child of a mother who was an artist at heart. However Janice Fields, due to her responsibilities as a single parent, never fulfilled her dreams in the art world. Salim’s interest in art began in public school when he discovered his mother’s art portfolio and tried to emulate her work. He also loved the 1974 show Good Times, where he became a big fan of Ernie Barnes, who was the artist behind the character JJ Evans. Growing up, Salim enjoyed drawing and painting, but did not officially attend any art classes or schools until he entered college as a film major, with a minor in photography. During his senior year, Salim fell in love with abstract art. In 2007, Salim graduated with a BFA from Pratt Institute.

Salim finds his work can be a valuable healing tool, both calming and inspiring. It sparks creativity, helping the observer explore another side of life through vibrant earth tones and organic movement. He says, "When I paint, I feel as if I am bringing something beautiful to life, not just putting paint on a canvas. The majority of my work is done in earth tones. I find them soothing as well as visually captivating. In my artwork, there will always be some form of movement, growth, life and most of all positive energy.” These small to medium sized works are abstract, yet evocative of landscapes and earthly scenes. Many are textured, with many layers of paint and molding compound. All have more to offer than what is seen at first glance.
