One of the critical issues facing theatres today is the need for affordable office space. Without an appropriate office, it is difficult for companies to continue to grow, to expand their artistic programming, to effectively manage their time, and in some instances, to hire a staff or find interns. In order to assist with this growing problem, on January 25, 2000, A.R.T./New York purchased South Oxford Space.
Located in Fort Greene (near downtown Brooklyn and BAM), South Oxford Space is a five story, 19,200 square foot Federal Style building that provides office space to 22 small and midsize theatre companies for below-market rate, and subsidizes utilities and storage space. In addition to individual offices, the building has a variety of shared facilities and amenities such as rehearsal studios, kitchen and mail room.
South Oxford Space also seeks to play an important part in the life of the Brooklyn community. Gallery Three displays the work of local visual artists and the large, 2nd floor Great Room is used for small-scale concerts, dance and theatrical presentations, and for community meetings.
Rental hours are between 9am and 10pm, seven days a week. South Oxford Space is fully air-conditioned and is wheelchair accessible, and convenient to all trains: B, C, D, G, N, R, Q, 2, 3, 4, 5, and the LIRR.
The Great Room
This beautiful, wood-paneled room has 14' ceilings, a small raised stage, and hardwood floors. The room measures 35' x 27', and the stage is 15' x 10'. There are three tall windows with drapes that have blackout capabilities. Chairs, tables, a movie projection screen, and a grand piano are available for use with rental.

Rehearsals: up to $30/hr
Small Meetings/Workshops: up to $55/hr
Large Meetings/Receptions/Performances: up to $125/hr
Rehearsal Studio G
Rehearsal Studio G is located on the first floor and measures 28' x 26' with 10' ceilings. This bright, airy studio with windows and a marley dance floor opens out to a back garden. There are chairs, tables, and a piano for use in the room.

Meetings: up to $50/hr
Readings/Receptions: up to $100/hr
Rehearsal Studio B
Rehearsal Studio B is located in the basement and measures 21' x 16'. This clean, well-lit space has 9' ceilings and is equipped with a piano. There are chairs and tables for use in the room.

Meetings/Classes: up to $30/hr
