The A.R.T./New York Theatres

A visionary project that will change the face of nonprofit theatre in New York City and ensure affordable theatre for companies and audiences for 91 years

A.R.T./New York has again partnered with the City of New York—as it has done twice before with successful programs to create low-cost shared rehearsal and office spaces in midtown Manhattan and Fort Greene, Brooklyn. With a leadership investment from the City, and additional funding from New York State, A.R.T./New York opened two new shared, subsidized performance spaces at 53rd Street and 10th Avenue in Manhattan.

The A.R.T./New York Theatres opened in January 2017.

The two new performance venues have up to 87 and 149 seats respectively (depending on configuration), and their fully equipped technical and production resources are included in the weekly subsidized rentals.

The theatres themselves are modern, highly flexible performance spaces with top-quality lighting, sound, and video equipment to support the diverse artistic disciplines of our member theatres. The flexible seating can be configured for each company’s artistic desires, and the floors will be suitable for dance.

In addition to being LEED Silver, the theatres are also fully accessible for audiences, artists, and technical staff alike, with attractive, Wi-Fi equipped lobbies that can also be used as special event spaces.

A.R.T./New York is in the process of raising a multi-million dollar Rental Subsidy Fund that will provided subsidized rental rates for A.R.T./New York members and help address the urgent need for affordable performance space.

Member theatres with annual budgets of $1 million or less are invited to apply for subsidized rentals. The first round of applications was completed in November 2015.

For more information visit our Theatre Rental Subsidy Fund Page »

For theatres with annual budgets above $1 million that do not have spaces of their own, the theatres will be available for rental at non-subsidized rates on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact Kendra Ramthun, General Manager, for more details at

The theatres are also available for one-night events and readings, at non-subsidized rates and subject to availability. These requests will be considered on a rolling basis no more than 60 days prior to the date of the request. Please contact Kendra Ramthun, General Manager, for more details at
