Rehearsal Space

 

For nearly 50 years A.R.T/New York has brought theatre-makers together. We have created a community, offered up rental space,  provided workshops, and housed audience members. We have a total of ten studio and meeting spaces available to rent by the hour for rehearsals, meetings, auditions, classes, workshops, readings, concerts, conferences, staff retreats, and small-scale theatrical performances. Read on to submit your booking requests.

 


NOTE - Beginning January 2022, all rehearsal bookings for A.R.T./New York member companies will be charged the discounted rate of $12 per hour via our Creative Space Program, thanks to generous funding by the Mellon Foundation. Guidelines for Studio Rentals 

  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination required for all persons entering rented space. 
  • Bookings will be scheduled with at least 30 minutes between them to allow for sanitizing and for the air to clear.
  • Payment must be made by credit card in advance, with card information saved to the account.
  • No one other than A.R.T./New York staff is permitted to enter the manager's office.
  • Renters and participants will not be allowed to enter the building more than five minutes before the rental time. No lingering in the lobby or hallways before, during, or after the rental time.
  • Social distancing must be maintained in the studio and the common areas. 
  • Masks must be worn (even if vaccinated) at all times in the common areas.
  • Renters and all participants must comply with all posted guidelines and keep a record of all participants in their activity onsite daily for contact tracing purposes.
  • Studio windows (where applicable) must be open while occupied. Fans and/or air purifiers, which are provided in the space, must be used.
  • These guidelines are in addition to our regular space rental guidelines and the posted COVID-19 prevention regulations, including limits on occupancy in elevators, restrooms, and common areas.

The LuEsther T. Mertz South Oxford Space is fully air-conditioned, wheelchair accessible, and convenient to all trains: B, C, D, G, N, R, Q, 2, 3, 4, 5, and the LIRR. Please note that we do not rent for private functions such as birthday parties, weddings, or baby showers.

The Great Room

A spacious, wood-paneled performance hall with large arched windows against the left wall. Chairs are set up in rows facing a small stage, with a grand piano in front of the windows.

Maximum Capacity: 30 persons

This stunning wood-paneled room has 14' ceilings, a small raised stage, and hardwood floors. The room measures 35' x 27', and the stage is 15' x 10'.  There are three tall windows with drapes that have blackout capabilities.

Studio G

A spacious room naturally lit from the windows against the far wall. There is a piano in the far corner next to some chairs, and a folding table sits to the left.

Maximum Capacity: 20 persons

Located on the first floor, the Studio G rehearsal space measures 28' x 26' with 10' ceilings. This bright, airy studio with windows and a Marley dance floor opens out to a backyard garden.

This clean, well-lit rehearsal space located in the basement has Marley flooring, measures 21' x 16' and has 9' ceilings.

The Spaces are located in Manhattan’s Garment District, conveniently close to Penn Station and the Port Authority, as well as all Times Square and 34th Street Subway lines.

The Bruce Mitchell Room

A spacious room with shiny blue flooring. A piano and chair sit against the far wall.

This lovely, colorful room measures 30' x 25' and may be used for rehearsals and small events. It has adjustable track lighting, convenient counter space, and rubberized “Mondo” flooring.

This rehearsal room measures 22' x 18'. It has sprung floors with rubberized “Mondo” flooring. There is a wall of mirrors that may be covered with drapes provided.

Studio E (formerly known as the Peter Ziesler Studio)

A spacious room with black flooring. There are black velvet curtains covering two walls, and windows along the far wall.

Maximum Capacity: 30 persons

With an adjacent lobby and restroom, this large studio is perfect for weekly lockouts and workshops. At this time, Studio E is only available to rent for weekly lockouts, except for last minute bookings (if available). It has three windows, Marley floors and drapes along the walls. It measures 44’x21’

Conference Room

Maximum Capacity: 30 persons

The A.R.T./New York Conference Room is fully carpeted with high ceilings, windows and a flexible layout. This is the ideal space for meetings, staff retreats, trainings and workshops. Equipped with dry erase  boards, wifi, coffeemaker, chairs and tables. The space includes the main room measuring 23' x 33' and an additional breakout room measuring 10' x 15.'
