Telling Your Story in 2025
Tuesday October 28, 2025
10am-1pm ET
Studio Location: The Haimes Studio at Spaces@520
Marketing your production and connecting with potential audiences requires a strategic, multi-faceted approach using all the tools we have available to us: social media, email marketing, ads, word of mouth, press, and more. And yet, our approaches can feel like screaming into a void and hoping that one press outlet gets us the boost we need.
Spend the morning with us to shed some magical thinking and explore approaches and tools that match your production, your capacity, and help you tell your story. This morning is composed of several related sessions - join us for one or grab your caffeine and buckle up for the full slate!
Schedule:
10am - 11am - Part One: Reimagining Press & Marketing for Today’s Theatremakers
11am - 11:15am - Break/Networking
11:15am - 12:15pm - Part Two: Lo-Fi, High Impact: Create Content That Connects
12:15pm - 1pm - Part Three: Morning Reflections, Movement Forward
Part One: Reimagining Press & Marketing for Today’s Theatremakers
Facilitated by Danielle King, Director of Program Services, A.R.T./New York,
With special guests: Laura K. Nicoll, Marketing & Communications Director, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Matt Ross of Print Shop PR, and Diep Tran, Editor in Chief, Playbill.
In the first portion of our workshop, in conversation with Danielle King, A.R.T./NewYork’s Director of Program Services, we’ll be joined by Matt Ross (Print Shop Public Relations) and additional guests, for a candid conversation about the myths that still shape how we think about press coverage and how clinging to these old practices and expectations might limit the impact of our marketing efforts. Matt and guests will share insights on:
- Why traditional visions of press impact are increasingly out of sync with today’s reality — and particularly unaligned with the unique challenges and needs of theatremakers.
- Playing the long game: cultivating relationships and building your network over time through consistent outreach.
- Designing your marketing strategy with the scope and context of the production itself in mind.
This session will provide practical tools and insights into reimagining your marketing and press approach and leveraging the networks and tools you already have to maximize your impact!
Part Two: Lo-Fi, High Impact: Create Content That Connects
Facilitated by Aly Gomez, Senior Consultant, Digital Marketing, Capacity Interactive
This hands-on workshop is your permission slip to embrace the power of scrappy, scroll-stopping Lo-Fi content. From screenshots to screen recordings, first-person walk-throughs to unedited POV videos, we’ll explore what makes Lo-Fi work—and why it’s one of the smartest tools in your marketing toolkit right now.
We’ll kick things off with a no-fluff presentation on Lo-Fi trends and examples from both inside and outside the arts. Then you’ll get to roll up your sleeves. With just your phone (and optionally, ChatGPT), you’ll capture and shape real content ideas—guided by prompts, feedback, and plenty of inspo. If you’ve ever thought “I don’t have enough assets to make content yet,” this session will prove you already have everything you need.
Part Three: Morning Reflections, Movement Forward
To finish out the morning, we'll make space to collectively reflect on the morning’s conversations and hear from guest artists what resonates with them and what approaches they've put into action.
