Marketing Your Values

Tuesday, October 5, 2021
4:00pm - 6:00pm ET

Format: Online
Location: Zoom
Intended Audience: Intermediate level marketing administrators.
Participation Level: Medium - Group sharing is optional but encouraged.

Marketing at any given theater company usually has one goal: to sell tickets. That demand can often be at odds with the theater's internal and/or publicly stated values, leading to marketing strategies that tokenize playwrights and their work, fail at diversifying audiences, and pool marketing dollars in the same outlets that every other theater is using. In this workshop, we'll discuss revising the marketing process from programming to ideation and execution, exploring the moments in which a values-led approach can yield a result that is more in line with what the company aspires to be.

Francisco Mendoza is an Argentinian-born, Brazilian-raised writer with a journalism and marketing background. He's currently the Marketing Manager at The Playwrights Realm, and acts as a consultant and educator for other non-profit theater companies; he has taught at the New School, ART/New York, the New Group, and the 24 Hour Plays. He's a graduate of Tisch's MFA program and a MacDowell Fellow, and his work has been developed and presented at The Lark, the New Group, the Great Plains Theatre Conference, Northern Stage, and San Diego Rep, among others.
