Creative Branding and Building a Pitch Deck

Intended Audience: Beginner/Intermediate level. Geared toward marketing and development professionals from small to medium-sized organizations.
Participation Level: Medium - Group sharing is optional but encouraged.

As creatives, we thrive on our belief in, and commitment to, our work. But, all too often, we struggle to articulate that excitement and value in a way that is clear and digestible to others, from funders to producing partners to foundations. We know why our work matters - but how do we make that crystal clear to others? This 90-minute workshop with artist and producer James Clements will explore how to create a strong, cohesive, and clear pitch deck for your project, communicating everything your potential partner would need to know in a way that is authentic to your creative voice, and that allows you to establish a clear visual language for your project. These decks are often your first foot in the door and are an essential tool for conveying not just your project information, but your potential, passion, and principles as an artist. We will review existing pitch decks, discuss the key components of each and explore the kind of people who they might be sent to, and why.

James Clements is an actor, writer, director, producer, and arts educator based between New York and Scotland. Clements has performed at venues including La Mama E.T.C., HERE and MITU580, and has been on the creative team for projects at Lincoln Centre LCT3, the Public, and the 92nd Street Y. His original plays, described by critics as "magnifying" (TimeOut), "intricate" (BroadwayWorld), and “intellectual” (Theatre is Easy), have been performed in cities across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. He has taught at CUNY Queens College and the Wuhan Institute of Design and Science and is an Affiliated Instructor at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. He is also Co-Producing Artistic Director of What Will the Neighbors Say?, a Brooklyn-based theatre company with a mission to provoke questions through untold stories, with whom he has co-produced over 150 performances of 7 original plays in 5 cities, as well as co-presenting a further 19 projects.
