As events become increasingly held in virtual spaces, it’s important to include as many audiences as possible. One particular group that has limited accessibility to theater and performances is the blind community. In this workshop, you will learn about making virtual events, screenings, and performances accessible to blind audiences. Attendees will get a chance to learn about which virtual platforms are accessible, how to advertise in an accessible way, hiring audio describers as well as how to audio describe videos/performances, and what to include in your access check.

Born in Egypt and raised in New York, Walei Sabry has had significant transitions in his life. First from one country to another and then through varying degrees of vision. As a blind New Yorker and a disability rights advocate, Walei makes sure that the City of New York's digital products can be accessed by all. Whether it’s by conducting website audits, providing staff awareness trainings or representing the disability community in his everyday life, wherever he goes, Walei is constantly changing perceptions one situation at a time.
