Introducing Incubator Membership

A.R.T./New York has always been proud to help theatre companies large and small access the resources they need. Now, we're adding a new form of membership so that we can help companies from day one!

For new companies, we understand that paying dues when you haven't yet set up a bank account or applying for complicated grants when you're still developing a mission statement is a big hurdle to jump through to access member resources. Companies that are still figuring it out aren't ready or interested in a lot of A.R.T./New York's services, but could still use our help.

So, we're introducing Incubator Membership, where companies that are in the process of forming, preparing to embark on their first production, or just seeing if their collective can work together can access a limited selection of A.R.T./New York services at a reduced rate for one year of membership.

Incubator members:
  • must identify as new or in the process of forming and should not have 501(c)3 nonprofit status at the time of application (though incubator members may be fiscally sponsored). Incubator members may be preparing to embark on their first production or have very limited producing experience.
  • must have an annual operating budget under $100,000. While the organization may not yet have a formal budget, the anticipated annual expenses should not exceed $100,000.
  • may only retain their Incubator Membership status for ONE year. At the conclusion of that year, the organization may renew as a full member, but may not pursue another year of Incubator Membership.
  • only have access to a limited selection of A.R.T./New York's services, including workshops, roundtables, some space discounts, and the Creative Space grant.
  • pay a reduced rate of dues. Because of the new status of these companies and the limited services they'll have access to, Incubator members pay only $50 in dues at the time of application.

Young companies who want access to all of A.R.T./New York's services are still welcome to apply as full members. But Incubator Membership is here for groups and organizations who are still getting things together and want some help, but know they won't be ready for everything just yet.

We know our current members will welcome these additions to the community with open arms!
