Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York
The Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York (A.R.T./New York) is proud to be celebrating four decades as the premier service and advocacy organization for the city’s vibrant community of nonprofit theatres. Founded in 1972, A.R.T./New York assists our 300 member theatres in managing their companies more effectively so that they can reach their full creative potential and serve their diverse audiences well. From shared office and rehearsal spaces, to the nation’s only revolving loan fund specifically for theatres, to our technical assistance and leadership training initiatives, A.R.T./New York has earned a reputation as a leader in providing progressive services to the industry. Among our achievements over the years, A.R.T./New York most recently received a Mayor’s Award for Arts & Culture in 2008 and the 2010 Tony Honor for Excellence in Theatre.
Announcing the
A.R.T./New York Theatres
Building on our successful heritage of creating innovative shared real estate programs for nonprofit theatre, we are excited to launch our largest and most ambitious project: a 99-year lease on the A.R.T./New York Theatres at 10th Avenue and 53rd Street. This brand new complex will contain two state-of-the-art performance venues, public spaces, comprehensive technical equipment, a scenic/prop shop, and other amenities. The fundraising campaign for the A.R.T./New York Theatres will allow us to heavily subsidize the facility, bringing affordable performance space within reach of every A.R.T./New York member organization.
